RichInstead
The RichInstead is a browser extension that helps people save money by nudging them to avoid buying things they don’t need
About project
It often happens that people cannot fight consumerism. Buying pretty goods feels to them like a way to manage happiness at that moment of weakness. As a result, people often spend money on unnecessary things. It causes them to fail in achieving their financial goals.
Task
We needed to create an app to help people avoid unwanted purchases, control their spending, and teach them how to reach their financial goals. The main objective of the application is not to stop consumerism but to curb unhealthy spending. This extension calls people to focus less on acquiring stuff and be reach instead.
Challenge
We have faced a few challenges. The first one is more technical: how and when to trigger extension correctly. And the second one is how not to be noisy. Also, all people have some "guilty pleasures" and have limits to spending money. We don't want to always punish users for this and invent a limit system to encourage them.
Results
We propose a Browser Extension that helps the user easily set financial goals. If you spend more money for fun than planned, we will gently remind you and highlight unnecessary items inside your cart. Since savings do not multiply funds, the extension offers to invest them in investments to bring the user's financial goals closer.
